It’s one of the most visited churches sinceit’s the first stop on the tourist route through the city and surroundings. Its construction was finished in 1870, being rebuilt and modernized by the religious order San Vicente de Paul. Inside you will be fascinated by the main altar, worked with stylized art and detail, where you can see the images of Santa Rosa, San Francisco de Asis, the Virgen del Carmen and Santo Domingo de Guzman, whose name the church took.

In this complex nearly 1000 figures on the stones of Huancor are represented in 30 centuries of history of the ancient settlers of Chincha. The stones show how was the life of the first people from Chincha, considered experts sailors and distinguished businessmen of the old Peru.

It was the original capital of the territory of the chincha culture (1200 AD - 1450 AD) made up of pyramids from where you can observe the chinchan sea and the nearby country houses. Its original structure was modified by the inca people, who added elements of their architecture after the conquest to the chincha population.

In this place lived Melchora Saravia Tasayco, popularly known as “la Melchorita”, who dedicated her life to the Catholic faith and to take care of poor and sick people. Afterher death in 1951, her house was transformed in a center of worship, that is the origin of the sanctuary that takes her name.

In sunny and warm days you can go to the crowded beaches of excellent view, in the middle of the desert environment, so characteristic of the southern coast. The most popular is Jahuai, but there are various choices also good for the summer visitors as La Perla, Totoritas or Carrizal.
The islands of Chincha are 3 islands, famous in the 19th century for being the main source to obtain guano, that was used until 1874, when it ended. From the district of Tambo de Mora at some kilometers from the city of Chincha you can start a tour to the islands, home of the guano birds, ideal to all the lovers of nature observation or birdwatching.
The place known as “las laderas” is one of the favourite points by the adrenalin and adventure sports. From the laderas which are at 60 to 200 meters of height you can start the flight on paragliding, from the Chincha valley to the Cañete valley, which roundtrip take about 4 hours. There is no comparable experience, just unforgettable.
If you are looking for the most typical dish of Chincha, you found it. The Chinchan carapulcra is prepared in a mud pot -using a stick laddle- on an adobe kitchen, where they cook with firewood; that is the secret of the smoked particular but delicious flavor. It’s prepared with potatoes, meat (pork, mutton or hen), chilly pepper, onions, pepper, salt, garlic and toast peanuts.
It’s a soup that get up every exhausted man. It’s a plate full of proteins and a concentrate flavor with the achiote (spice), black olives, parsley, salt, noodles, meat, pepper and hen consomme. Don’t you leave Chincha without tasting it, you could regret later.
This popular dessert is obtained of boiling the quince with blonde sugar, whisking the mix with a stick laddle. The result is a dessert between solid and jellied of dark red color, a simple delicacy!
Made of white corn, pork, chilly pepper, peanuts, black olives and boiled egg, they prepare a dough that recovers all the ingredients on a square shape. Once the mixture is ready the tamal is wrapped in a banana leaf, to be tied with little ropes. At the end it’s put into water for an hour until it’s cooked.
Verano Negro | (February the 25th until March the 6th) | It’s one of the most important festivals in Peru, celebrated at the beginning of the year in the district of El Carmen, crib of the afroperuvian culture. During the festival there are shows of dances and traditional music, gastronomy, winemaking and handicraft fairs, that are completed with an open-air dance where locals and visitors participate with tap-dances and rejoycing. |
