The best period to visit Piura is the summer, although the beaches are crowded in that period. There is always a nice weather, so you can also travel in July for the Fiestas Patrias celebration.

This restaurant is one of the best examples of the typical gastronomy in Sullana, very popular among the frequent dinners due to the exquisite flavor of each of the dishes, the nice service of the staff and the low-cost rates. The creole and marine food is the specialty here, although among its varied offer we stand out the seco de chavelo and seco de cabrito con tamalito verde because of its unique seasoning and a meticulous preparation.

The best mackerel ceviche you will find in the Arriba Alianza restaurant, specialized in marine food in the different presentations. The place is little and not so welcoming, but due to the great flavor and quality of their dishes, the atmosphere becomes less important. The service is good, but since the plates are very well-prepared, the deliver of them can be slow. If you visit this place, try to taste the unique ceviche de caballa and cachemitas fritas, just a delight!

The square is the meeting point where the main fairs and civic activities of Sullana take place. The environment of the square stands out among other cities of the north of Peru with its green areas, trees and calm places where the visitor will appreciate the fountain Pedro Fernandez, that launches illuminated water with lights of choreographied movement in the evening. It's a habit from the people of Sullana to join together at this square on Sunday after the evening mass to share and fraternize close to the monument of Bolognesi.

It's a church of modern neoclassic style, that belongs to the parish of Santisima Trinidad, has an impressive tower of 138 feet (42 meters) of height and 2 bells that are known as Maria Carmen and Trinidad, both of high size. The church was built from 1942 to 1945, although once opened there were added more elements as the main nave and the bell tower. It's undoubtedly one of the fewels of the modern architecture of Peru that we recommend you to visit.

This square has the name of the famous naval hero from the Guerra del Pacifico, Don Miguel Grau Seminario. One of the attractions that you will see is the bust in marble of the Almirante Miguel Grau, a monument that before that time was disputed between the authorities of the city of Piura and Sullana since it was of great iconic value and representative of the cultural identity in both cities

At this museum you will learn about the history of the Piura department through the pottery and metallurgical and archaeological objects of the main cultures that dominated the region of the Chira Valley, as tallanes and incas; but you will also see some pottery of cultures from the south coast (as the Nazca). You will find as well an impressive collection of old photographies where distinguished personalities of the history of Sullana appear.

This little village is well-known for being the first Spanish city founded in the Peruvian territory (1532) under the name of San Miguel de Tangarara. It's told that its name comes from the word Tallan Tangar Arac. In the center of the square you can appreciate an obelisk and on it a copy of the cross that the conqueror Francisco Pizarro used in the foundation act, so common at the beginning of the colonial period.

This beautifual and old neoclassic architecture was declared Heritage National Monument. Its construction dates from 1919 and was made firstly in adobe and wattle and daub, although it was completed with marble and the best cane of Guayaquil. In its outskirts you can appreciate some huacas that are the main evidence of the inca's presence in the region.

There are a lot of agencies in the city that sell tours through a route of summer, rich in beaches, warm climate and tourist attractions to be visited in a fast way. The tour lasts about 8 hours and starts in Sullana, with an exploration of the main tourist attractions of the city, to go later across the area of Colan beach with its calm sea and nearby interest places. The tour ends with the visit to the city of Paita, its pier, the dock and tourist sites as the church of San Francisco and the temple of La Merced.
When you taste this dish, your palate will taste unmistakable flavors as green banana well fried, dry cow meat, chilli pepper, spices, tomato and onions. You can accompany it with a refreshing chicha.
It's a plate very similar to the seco de chavelo, since it's prepared with green banana, but also with pumpkin and manioc. The word majar means to crush, so the name of the dish makes reference to its preparation where the ingredients are mashed and mixed up. It's eaten as the seco de chavelo, but without meat.
It's a delicious soup to love the seasoning of Sullana. The main ingredients that provide the unique flavor are garlic, onions, chilli pepper and spices that dress the water and the pasta called cabello de angel (angel's hair). To the soup it's added olives, in little pieces and mushed boiled egg. Some people like to add raisins to the soup.
It's the drink that cool down every typical lunch in Sullana. The origin of this drink, popular in different cities of the 3 regions of Peru, goes back to the period when the tallanes dominated the Chira Valley. It's prepared with corn that has just germinated and is left ferment for some days to intensify its effects and sweet and sour flavor.

The origin of the fair is related to the cultural exchanges of the first settlers of the region of Chira's Valley. The central day is January the 6th, that coincides with the Epiphany date. The main activities where you can participate are the exhibitions (Peruvian and foreigner), cultural and religious events and a lot of trade.
