It's the oldest church of the Piura department, with an antiquity that dates from middle of the 16th century. Its structure suffered diverse natural disasters, reason why the church was restored and combines different architecture styles. You can distinguish the Rococo, Baroque and Churrigueresco style among others. Inside there is a deep devotion to the image of the Virgen de las Mercedes, patron saint that is paid tribute to in September.

It's a construction of great historic value, since it was the last home of the woman who captivated the liberator Simon Bolivar, standing out also due to its tireless and valuable contribution to the Independence cause.

This small beach measures 1509 feet (460 meters) long and 656 feet (200 meters) wide and usually was called the beach of artisan fishermen, although during the summer becomes a beach of white sand and not so deep waters, just ideal for the people who look for calm, sun and some adventure. Nearby you can practice sport fishing, rappel in the cliffs, swimming and sandboarding, since there is a sand dune of 49 feet (15 meters).

As Paita is a port city and of ancestral marine tradition, the main dishes of the gastronomy are made of fish and other sea species.
The mackerell is cleaned to be boiled for 5 minutes. Once it's ready, you add a sauce of chilly pepper, onion, tomato, coriander, lemon juice, salt and oil. It's served with boiled manioc and sliced fried banana.
The preparation of this dish doesn't vary a lot from the one of other coast cities. To cook it, you boil fish slices in lemon juice, all of it with onions, salt, chilly peppers and coriander. Once that is ready, it's served with potatoes and a lettuce leaf.
This ray omelette is made cleaning well the ray and leaving it in water 24 hours, before preparing it. When it's ready the fish pass through hot water and then is put in a bowl of eggs onions and other spices. You mix up all the ingredients and put them in a frying pan with oil, until it's crunchy and gold-colored. Enjoy it as with the side dish that you prefer.
In the preparation of this dish, you take the fish cut in slices, seasoned with salt and pepper. Then you put them in a dressing of chilly pepper, garlic, tomato and onions. The combination is boiled in a closed pot for 10 minutes, and you add coriander and a chilly pepper. And you wait until the steam cooks it. Enjoy it with a boiled manioc and rice. Something just exquisite!!
This nourishing dish is made of fishes and shellfishes. First you fry the slices of fish with onion, garlic, tomato, chilly pepper and the spices. Then you add some wine and leave it cook for 5 minutes. And afterwards you put it in a soup of fish heads and mussels. At the end it's served with shellfish, mussels, with lemon, salt and pepper.
