Obelisco
Location: Crossing point of Av. Fitzcarrald with Madre de Dios
It was declared some years ago as the world's ugliest building; its uncertain esthetics outside is counteracted with the beautiful views that it offers from the highest point.
Japipi
Location: Elmer Faucett km 6
Hours: Monday to Sunday from 8:00 a. m. to 2:00 p. m.
Japipi means butterfly. It's a butterfly farm not to be missed. There are flowers and butterflies that fly everywhere, creating a nice atmosphere.
Lago Sandoval
Location: at 24,8 mi (40km) to the east
This lake is the main tourist destination. To get there we recommend you to hire a guide service at any specialized agency of the city. To get inside you need first of all to do a 40 minutes trekking through a path, where you will admire diverse wonderful landscapes. Once you get there, you will be able to see otters, shanshos (a kind of bird), caimans and herons, among other birds.
Lago Valencia
Location: Close to the border with Bolivia
At this lake you can appreciate different mammals, turtles, caimans and even a famly of giant otters. It's inhabited by nearly 30 families commited with ecotourism, fishing and collection. During the tour you will admire riverside communities and the Isla de los Monos (the Monkey Island).

Reserva Nacional de Tambopata
Location: At 37 mi (60 km) to the south-west of Puerto Maldonado, in the Tambopata river.
Alfter a trip of 2 hours by a motor boat from Puerto Maldonado, you will get to the national biological reserve of Tambopata, a place located between the basins of the rivers Tambopata and Heath, where live 632 bird species, 1200 kinds of butterfly, 169 types of mammals, 205 kinds of birds, 103 amphibians and 67 reptiles.You can visit this biological reserve just if you have booked in a surrounding lodge. To go inside is necessary to buy a ticket that costs 30 soles.
Parque Nacional Bahuaja-Sonene
Location: at 56 mi (90 km) from Puerto Maldonado, in the Heath river
Price: 30 soles
At this place is located the only tropical humid savannah of Peru. At this park there live animals as the maned wolf, the marsh deer, the giant anteater, wolf river or giant otter, the bushdog, the black lizard and the harpy eagle.
